1. Jan 30,  · Garlands starts off with a strange build up of discordant screeches (very much like the sound of Gordon Sharpe's Cindytalk at that time). It's a bit like a train approaching. The music then hits you like a train. Garlands therefore is the perfect beginning album for the CT journey. By the way, most of the Cocteau Twins' lyrics are words/5().

2. The cover is nicely printed on semigloss stock, the inner sleeve is a nice anti static paper/plastic affair, and mine came with a download card which allowed for CD-res flac files. (as this reviewer believes they did), Cocteau Twins' debut album "Garlands" is a great album on its own merits, they had yet to find their sound, but this sound /5(92).

3. This is the only album in the Cocteau's entire catalog that is completely the missing positive, lilting shoegazer hit material such as "Pearly Dewdrop's Drops" and "Sugar Hiccup". Their new age, "dreamy" soft white aesthetic had yet to emerge. This is not the say "Garlands" is one-dimensional; far from it/5().

5. Cocteau Twins is not the first band that comes in mind for an electronica database, but OK, there is the ever sec hitting drummachine so that makes a good entrance ticket I guess. Cocteau Twins is not about electronica but is all about Elisabeth Fraser’s voice and, especially in the case of Garlands, about howling.

I owned it on vinyl as an angst-ridden student in the early s, and just loved its dark, haunting and melancholy sounds. The cover is nicely /5(59).
